The computer has an Administrator account, but I do not know the password for the account. The guest account on the computer does not grant me the joy of reformatting my hard drive, only the administrator can do that..... Safe mode doesn't work, as it still wants a password.

you will need to boot your pc from the windows cd. at startup press f1. select boot from cd from the bios menu. you will be given a choice to repair or do a clean install. pick a clean install. once windows installs some background files you will be able to do the refortatting of the hardrive and repartition if you want. just be sure there is nothing on the pc you want to save. not sur why you don't have ad min rights to your own pc but that is how to do it. i reformatted and repartitioned my pc and reinstalled xp in about an hour so it does not take that long. good luck

If you want to reformat the HD. All you need to do is boot up from the Windows 2000 or higher CD. The windows setup will let you reformat your HD. If you have a Windows that doesn't have a bootable CD download a boot CD/floppy from www.bootdisk.com

Make a dos boot disk, or boot off of the windows CD. You can change the boot order of devices in your setup or bios menu of your computer. Make sure "CD" is above "Hard Drive", and you will be able to reinstall.
