My hard drive is defective (I'm sure of this, its making weird noises and all that) what can I do as far as fixing it? It's an Acer 5050 I purchased it in July.

Please, don't answer unless you're sure you know.

I have an 8800 GTS with 640mb memory (Im sure because it says on the box) and 4gb ram, my os is 32 bit.

When I run dxdiag it shows my memory as 3582mb, this worries me. 32 bit cant handle all 4gb right? so the video card memory takes its place?

I have never been good at math but doesn't 4096-3582=514? Did the static from when I put it in damage my video card memory?

I have a eTower 733i (lucky me - it's old). I am looking for a new power supply because it literally blew on me tonight. I was in the middle of watching a video and my computer completely shuts down.

I know I need a power supply. (I had an old one and hooked it up and now it works.) Thing is I just got a NEW one in June.
I am set to buy one this weekend or next. Trouble with it is, is that the power supply I need is a bit smaller than a standard one. (Or they all come in different sizes?)

What's a brand name that I should look for, or a particular model I could get so that it's guaranteed to fit in my computer?

Suggestions and answers would be great. Thanks!

I've been trying to fix a dead pc belonging to a friend. It gets to the screen with all the data on it and a flashing cursor in the bottom corner. I've tried booting up to cd-rom but it wont do that neither, was gonna try reinstalling windows.... I've tried cd-rom in another oc, it worked, i've tried the ram in another pc, it worked, i've tried putting hard-drive in another pc it didnt work, windows is corrupt. So I'm reinstalling windows at the mo then will try transferring it into the dead pc, see what happens. Do you reckon this will work? If not, do you have any other ideas I could try? I'm getting desperate here...lol

Thanks in advance XX

2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics with 256MB SDRAM

It's a macbook pro 17inch with 1680 x 1050 pixel resolution.
More and more games are starting to be released for the mac platform, but the intel macs are capable of natively booting windows xp or vista with supposedly full driver support.

What sort of games can this setup handle, and at what graphic quality?

I'm still using dial-up because the cable companies don't come out this far. (Cable & DSL are NOT available to me.) My PC is a Dell Dimension 8250 Pentium 4 running Microsoft XP, 4 or 5 years old. Can I hook up a wireless router to my dial-up phone line? My ISP techs say yes, the local store clerks say no. Which is it?

If I can hook up a wireless router, please tell me what hardware I'll need?

I've been having problems on and off with my HD for about 6 months. My computer is a Gateway desktop from 1999, upgraded from Win98 to WinXPHome a year ago; a FAT32 drive. My SEAGATE drive is a 160GB, about 2 years old; also a FAT32. When I bought it I just made folders and dragged data onto the drive, it worked fine. Last year I switched from my Gateway to an HP desktop I borrowed, an XP Pro with a NTFS drive. My external worked fine w/it but after a while when I tried to open the drive (via My Computer) and it said that it wasn't formatted, and if I would like to format it. I called the company of the drive and they helped nothing. I continued to turn on my drive like normal and eventually the drive popped out of it, all files unharmed. This has happened over and over. I've since had to revert back to my Gateway and haven't had problems for a while, but it's now doing it again. I really need to know how to stop this or how to fix it.

From my understanding, the commands to safely eject a usb flash drive is now written into the generic drivers on all windows programs, so its safe to pull the drive out cold.

Also, how is it that the files could get corrupted? When I pull the drive out, I always close the files first, so theyre no longer in use. So doesnt this mean the files are not being read/written, and there is no risk of corruption?

However, in class, some people have criticized me for not 'stopping' the drive before pulling it out.

Simply put: who is right?

i have a pre-owned puter that i got recently to replace an old one. i needed more ram, so i figured i'd crack open my old one and put the ram into the new one. well, the sticks won't fit. the little notch on it doesn't line up right or something, and i can't see in there well enough to know exactly. am i doing something wrong? or is it just that my puter is only set to use specific sticks? also, i think the power supply is shot, it shut down fine the last time it was used, but it won't turn on now. i've switched plugs and cords and everything, and nothing seems to work. is there a simple test i can do to see if it's that? (without taking out that power supply and putting in my old one)
