I have an 8800 GTS with 640mb memory (Im sure because it says on the box) and 4gb ram, my os is 32 bit.

When I run dxdiag it shows my memory as 3582mb, this worries me. 32 bit cant handle all 4gb right? so the video card memory takes its place?

I have never been good at math but doesn't 4096-3582=514? Did the static from when I put it in damage my video card memory?

Only 64-bit will honour all 4GB. 32-bit will only recognize up to 3.5GB or lower sometimes.

If the static damaged the component, it wont even be able to run in the first place. Besides they are not those ultra sensitive components (like the CPU chip) and will not be easily damaged by just small static charge on your body.

It doesn't borrow System Memory. THe 32-bit CPU (and 32-bit OS instructions) can only address 4GB of memory but is limited to 3.5GB by the WIndows 32-bit OS. the Windows 64-Bit OS limits the System memory to 8GB eventhough a 64-bit CPU can address 2^64 bytes of memory, which is a lot more than 8GB.

If you have a 64-bit CPU, then install a 64-bit OS. XP and Vista both come in 64-bit versions.

an 8800 gts has dedicated memory on the card and doesnt take it from your ram. 32 bit systems doesnt recognize 4 gb of ram it goes around 3.0-3.5gb depending on your system. also if you had a static discharge when installing you probably messed something up

Hey thats absolutely ok, some memory space is reserved. This happens with most new RAMS. In face when I got my 256 MB RAM installed, under my computer, it shows 248 MB only. So don't worry about that. As long as your system is up and running, its fine...
