So I'm buying a new computer based on some advice I got here on Yahoo Answers (yay!) and figured I'd buy a machine with hardware power that's up to par with present computing, and then some.

So, with 2 gigs of ram and 2.6 Ghz of processing power, I was feeling pretty good about playing some of these cool news games! Until, that is, I started looking at system reqs and recc's....

THESE ARE UNBELIEVABLE!!! Are games really this demanding?!! Or are the manufacturers simply overstating to cover their butts?

... Is there anything I can do that might help?

I recently read that the computer gaming industry is running at 30 or 40% of what they could really be. What would change this? What needs to be done to increase this percentage?

Well when ever i am running a large program or it is very hot whether my computer just turns itself off. Me and my friend think my fan just needs to be replaced because we think it isn't cooling down my computer but i checked the back of it and my fan is spinning. I don't really want a computer technician to check it out because they are way too expensive.. so if anyone can help me that would be great.

I noticed my folks computer was kinda slow today, I put 2g of ram into it (2.5 total now), and fixed a speaker problem. I built the computer myself in high school and it's a real good one. The graphix card has been acting up all day, even after I reinstalled the driver it has glitches and is very slow and kicks me out of programs with the following message:

VPU Recover has reset you graphics accelerator as it was no longer responding to graphics driver commands.

The card is a 9800 pro.

Is there anything else I can do to fix this?
If not what card should I buy? (I play games every now and then but would probably play more if they ran smothe and looked amazing)

I know that using the alt key and the calculator numbers you can type special characters. But the problem is that I am using a laptop and I don't have an idea of how to do it.

Hello. I just ordered the awesome 8800GT OC card.

Now I just need a PSU that will work with it. I heard you need +12V rails with over 20AMPS or something.

None of that makes any sense. Does anyone have a link to a relieable PSU that is reasonably cheap? I would prefer to buy from newegg.com but tigerdirect.com is good too.

thanks! Is there anything else I should know about? my computer is a HP a1230n too. I hope the card will fit in it...

the pen really works and all but it's always in "right-click" mode. so whenever i drag it across the desktop this square thing appears every time. and i can't even double click an icon neither drag it across the screen.
And whenever I use photoshop or any paint programs it writes automatically without the tip touching the tablet
does anyone know the solution to this problem? >__< please and thank you! :)

Hi all, i hope the question is clear enough. The main thing is that i dont want the children to use microphone feature for voip or msn or yahoo messenger. But at the same time i have no objection for watching movies and listen songs. Also i dont want to make separate accounts for this purpose. I am using windows XP, IE7.
So is there any perfect way of doin such stuff...
Thanks in advance

what i want to do is do a big wipeout of the entire hd, i made a hp recovery disk yesterday... but anyways i backed up all my important stuff like: music,pictures...etc w/ norton ghost and it backed up all of the stuff to a folder... but once i format my hd, those files that were backed up w/ norton ghost will be erased won't it be? if so, is there any way that i can backup the files somewhere... i have about almost close to 5 GB of files and the upload would take forever, and also i tried partioning with many things, first i tried computer management>disk management then tried it there, but it didn't show an option to add a new partion and i tried partionmagic, and i dont have a dvd burner to burn em to i only have a dvd player.
