i have xp home edition service pack 2, i can't get any usb storage to work i.e my camera my mp3 player ..etc
i have a vivitar 5188 camera which doesn't come with a driver. it does work with any other computers but not mine. how can i get my usb to work normal? it seems that some of the windows files are missing! please help.
p.s other devices connected via usb are working perfectly its just mp3 players, usb sticks and storage devices. thanks in advance !

Check your motherboard's driver are installed properly or not. Reinstall it. If still not working, go and download the usb driver from the motherboard manufacture website. If still really can't work ask a tech guy to reformat the computer. (you can do it if you know!)

Have a look in the camera's setup menu and see if it's set to PC cam, disk drive, or printer. PC cam allows you to access the internal memory only. Disk drive accesses the card, and printer nothing.
The MP3 probably needs a driver you can download from the manufacturers web site.
I've got the same set up (XP home, sp2, 5188) and it works fine.
The only other thought is how many things are plugged in to your USB ports. There's only half an amp available for all devices and things like broadband modems can take most of it.

sometimes windows original drivers get corrupted, try reinstalling the driver ( by opening device manager and updating the driver ) using windows update ( when you try to update the driver , you should get this option ) , while you are connected to the net.
