is there someway i can check what type of RAM chip i have without having to open it up? If so please tell me how

If your computer is not custom-made, the easiest way (besides opening the case) is to go to the manufacturer's website and you can get the spec-sheet for your PC's model, most of the time.

That will tell you exactly what you need to know about your RAM, as well as your other components.

I would try Crucial.com they have a RAM selector that goes by your Comp model, and a good return policy.

Download CPUID and it'll tell you what RAM you got.

Go to RUN, type dxdiag... you'll find all the information you'll need about your hardware there...
