So I have a dying hard drive due to a growing number of bad sectors and about ready to crash. Im going to be getting a new drive. Is there a way I can copy the data from a dying drive to the new drive and maintain the same windows installation? Or will Windows throw a fit and force me to reinstall?

The file system and Windows seem to be intact and stable. And I would really rather not have to manually move 50 gb of data if there is an easier way to do this.
Or am I better off just copying the drive and reinstalling windows?

Ok, first I'm planning on purchasing a nForce 570 SLIT-A (V5.1) motherboard, and I was wondering if someone could tell me if I had compatibility issues with my old hardware and the motherboard.

I have:
a Lite-on It brand CD-RW Drive
a Toshiba DVD-ROM Drive Modle # SD-M1612
an ATI Radeon 9200 128MB videocard
a Belkin USB Card
a Maxtor 541 DX 20gb harddrive.

hope this helps. I also know that I need a Dual-Core processor which I'm buying today. If you have a website link it would be very helpful too. I've had no luck findig this out on my own. Thanks very much

Can someone help me understand this better?

Okay. .so this is my understanding ..but it's probably wrong

Expansion Slots can connect to expansion busses (either ISA or PCI or AGP for video cards)
Windows' internet connection communicates with the Modem via a device driver and
tells the modem card to send an IRQ down the ISA bus which is connected directly to a northbridge chip. The northbridge chip then routes the IRQ signal directly to another type of internal bus --the address bus which leads directly to the CPU and contains the hexidecimal I/O Addressing for each device ...but the PCI or ISA slots don't contain the I/O Address resource

IS this at all right ??

thnks

Ok. I'm getting a new pc for multimedia such as High-Definition Video Editing, listening to music, browsing the web, watching videos, and playing games like World of Warcraft (WOW). I just need to know if this is sufficient enough.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+
2GB PC5400 DDR2
400GB SATA II 7200RPM
DVD+RW/-RW DL Lightscribe
Blu-Ray Drive
Sparkle GeForce 8600GT 256mb GDDR3 HDCP enabled

Is it good? If it isn't what can I change? It doesn't need to be extreme. I know what I need for extreme. But i'm not good at main stream.

I have a ASUS (Info: http://www.asus.com/products4.aspx?modelmenu=2&model=172&l1=3&l2=12&l3=29&l4=0). I recently purchased and installed a radeonX 1650 agp8 which suggests a 450W power supply, however I only have a 250-300W PSU.

When I first installed the card I had two quick power surges but after that it was fine. However after 2 hours of high end use I again had power surges. I need a stronger psu asap and I've been looking for the past couple of hours. However there are many variables that I do not understand.

Can anyone please suggest a power supply that I should instal? Thank you very much.

Is this even possible. I am going to get a mac pro soon, but i need it to occasionally run windows. I am looking in to the one with 4 Cores because the 8 Core is overkill for what i need. Would i have to run the professional version due to the dual Xeons? If this is not possible due to the CPU layout, then i will just get an iMac.

Morons at Zalman gave me a badly warped contact plate (or whatever the plate on a heatsink/fan that connects to the CPU is called). It was so warped, it only contacted the CPU on the outer edges. After removing it, I noticed that along the edges of the CPU where the heatsink contacted, there was shiny areas, almost as though the great pressure placed in those small areas damaged the matte finish of the processor. Could this happen? Should I buy another CPU (I can't even get my heatsink/fan RMA'd, unlikely I'll get a new processor out of the assholes).
