Could be a number of factors or just one:
Tripped circuit
Burnt outlet
Power Strip tripped?
Power Strip Fried? ( plug computer direct to find out)
Broken / Chewed Cord (have a dog? rats?)
Cord plugged in outlet? Into PSU? (Power Supply Unit?)
PSU burnt out
Motherboard shorted out/fried either through spike or grounding
Power connectors to motherboard disconnected (move it around lately?)
Sure there are others but thats the ones that come to mind.
But this, of course is assuming that you hit the power button and NOTHING happens.
You said wouldn't power up...
Are the fan running in the computer when you hit the power button? Any BIOS beep messages? If so then may be memory or CPU is your culprit.

Check the fuses? That is funny.
Unplug your power cord, open the case itself.
Your power supply has a power cord that connects to the motherboard itself.
Unplug it and plug it back on the mother board. Connect your external power source back on the computer.
See if the computer will turn back on. I have seen this happen alot on Dell's especially and this trick normally works.
Otherwise, I would have the power supply tested.

Check the fuses before you panic. Try plugging in to a separate a/c outlet as well, they do go bad sometimes as do power cords.

if it's a power supply, absolutely nothing happens. if you hear fans moving, it probably isn't the power supply.
