I do a lot of travelling, so it has to have wireless. Other than that, some sort of Word-esque thing, maybe a finance program or an excel type thing, be able to burn disks, and have enough memory to support having some photos and music on there. Movies aren't necessary. No games either, Here's the tricky part, I'm super broke. What's the cheapest one I can get that' will stand up to a hectic lifestyle is light and serves all my purposes, and how do I find said bargain???? please help.

I've been searching for the right laptop for a couple of months now, and I've been rather attracted to the MacBook (original.) I need to get a wireless connection without a hotspot, but I have cable at home, and my friend has a Dell but his internet is free and wireless. I know Macs come with AirPort... how does it work and what do I need- is it a one time cost? Or do I still need to pay monthly? Help!

I am looking at a 600$ Toshiba Satellite (very tight budget) laptop. This laptop looks exactly and has every same details as my friends Toshiba. The only thing is that his is a 2006 and this is a 2007 and they dont sell his anymore. His has XP home and ran counter Strike Source and other graphic games with NO LAG!(so ppl who don't think this can run games...it can) His laptop and this laptop have 512mb of RAM, 1.86GHz of speed, Celeron M processor, ATI Radeon Xpress 200m graphics, 60GB hard drive but there is only one difference...his lap has XP while this one I want to buy has Vista Home Basic.

Is there anyway that I can switch from the Vista to the XP Home so that it would be able to run the games like my friends?

And is there a way that Toshiba can switch the Vista to XP Home so I dont have to if its not preloaded?

Also would the XP Home work much better with the 512mb than the Vista Home Basic can with 512mb...cause I only know that the XP Home can play the games i want..

I have found a laptop that I want. It is a Toshiba Satellite laptop. The only thing that I don't know about is if it will run Genuine Windows Vista Home Basic...since that is what it comes with. I wanted it to be an XP home..but i couldn't find one. This laptop has 512mb of RAM, 1.86GHz of speed, Celeron M processor, ATI Radeon Xpress 200m graphic card, 60GB hard drive (5400rpm).
Is this enough to run Windows Vista Home Basic well? or should I add 512 mb of RAM more..because I know Home Basic isn't as big as Premium or anything.
Is there also a way I can switch to XP Home or something so i dont have to upgrade?
If you have Windows Vista Home Basic...it would be appreciated to tell me how yours works and tell me the specifications on your laptop you have.

You can also give me suggestions of what specifications on a laptop that would run Home Basic good..not SLOW!

Thanks for your answers

I'm looking at 2 laptops right now. They are definetly worth for the price but I am stuck with which one to get. I want a laptop that can run graphic games very nice and be very fast too. I play games such as counter strike source and day of defeat source and I want the laptop to play these games with no lag and very well. I am looking at a Compaq Presario laptop and a Gateway MT3707.

Compaq Presario: 100GB Serial ATA hard drive (5400 rpm), NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 (UMA) graphics with up to 288MB shared video memory, AMD Turion(TM) 64 X2, 1.6GHz of speed, 1GB of RAM, and has Windows Vista Home Premium preloaded.

Gateway MT3707: 160GB Parallel ATA hard drive (5400 rpm), ATI RADEON XPRESS 200M graphics with up to 256MB HyperMemory (total of local and shared system memory used by GPU), 1GB of RAM, 1.6GHz of speed, Intel® Pentium® Dual-Core, and Windows Vista Home Premium preloaded.

Which one will run my games a lot better and be very fast?
If you have one of the comps. please tell

OR

Mostly using it for average gaming (nothing too crazy), music, pictures, net and email stuff

feel free to give me your reasons for whichever one you pick and any suggestions to make them better or any better deals you know of, however please no suggestions for macs, nothing personal against mac users, but i just dont care for them, or for computers that are like $1500 +

Thanks!

Well, I'm looking at this one laptop that you can find on samsclub.com, but its cheap, its almost too cheap to be true. Its a compaq and it has an AMD Turion X2 TL-56 processor, 1 gb memory, 120 gb hard drive, and it seems like theres nothing wrong with it, but its only 634 dollars.... see for urself, the link is.. http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/navigate.do?catg=535&item=372201&prDeTab=2&pCatg=5680#A ... please go check it out.. i mean i do not see anything that is wrong with the laptop, and yet its way too cheap to be true. please tell me what is wrong with this laptop (i mean what is wrong with it, since its so cheap), and whether or not i should buy it.

Is a Laptop REALLY better than a Desktop? I dont think so because im using a laptop right now and its kinda annoying. U have to use your finger as the mouse; they keys dont always press down correctly, and its confusing. A desktop is more simple and and can be just as good as a laptop. WHat do u think is better?

My computer has been running very low on virtual memory lately and I hope to have this computer last until I get another one. I have already increased the memory disk space size and that has helped a bit. I'm using a Dell Laptop, btw. For some reason, now everytime I play a video file in any player, the screen flicks black...and the video plays fullscreen and doesn't allow me to close out of it until it ends...then the screen flickers back to the desktop. Can someone tell me why this is happening and what I can do to make it stop? Thanks a bunch.
