My computer has been running very low on virtual memory lately and I hope to have this computer last until I get another one. I have already increased the memory disk space size and that has helped a bit. I'm using a Dell Laptop, btw. For some reason, now everytime I play a video file in any player, the screen flicks black...and the video plays fullscreen and doesn't allow me to close out of it until it ends...then the screen flickers back to the desktop. Can someone tell me why this is happening and what I can do to make it stop? Thanks a bunch.

I FIXED IT! Since I am using a moniter as the screen...I clicked the FN/F8 CRT/LCD screen button once or twice and it no longer does that. My goofy self must have clicked the LCD moniter screen button too many times when booting up. Thanks anyways guys!

Hi,

This sounds like a video / system memory problem, and perhaps a video card/driver issue.
A few diagnostic questions may help get to the bottom here:

1. What model of Dell laptop are you using?
2. What operating system are you running? (Windows XP, Windows Vista, etc)
3. How much free space do you have on your hard drive? Once the free space on your harddrive reaches a certain size (a low number to be exact), all sorts of performance problems begin to occur.
4. How much installed RAM do you have?
5. Have you tried to update the driver for your video card? To do so, perform the following steps (assuming you are running Windows 2000 or XP. If you are running anything below Windows 2000, or Vista, the instructions are slightly different).
a. Click START
b. right-click on MY COMPUTER
c. click PROPERTIES
d. click Hardware
e. click DEVICE MANAGER
f. locate the text DISPLAY ADAPTERS
g. double-click on it and right-click on your video driver
h. click UPDATE DRIVER
i. Follow the onscreen prompts

Try to write back with the model of your laptop, the system memory, and the harddrive space. Also try to update the driver. I look forward to hearing updates about this issue!
