When I entered the BIOS and changed the 1st boot device to cd-rom, I inserted the winxp cd, but I still can't boot to the cd. HELP!

The first thing I would check is the CD. It probably needs to be an original. The other thing is that sometimes, it will prompt you to hit a key to start from CD. Watch for that.

Other than that, try moving the hard drive to the very last boot device. Make sure and save everything before restarting.

You might have to hit a key during the boot sequence. Also, like the previous poster said make sure the CD is readable in other machines, and that the laptop's CD-ROM drive still works....

try the same thing in another computer, if it dosent work the cd might be bad. If it does work then you need to make sure the cd drive in the computer is working

did you save your bios settings?

does your cd drive work?

is the disk good? ( i have a XP disk from MICROSOFT out of the package and its no good)

do you get any errors?
