anything i should know before doing this!? I am going to start from scratch.. how do i know what drivers i will need because i dont have the cds!

Go to Dell's website and download the drivers for your Inspiron 6000 and burn them to a CD or copy them to a USB flash drive before you start. With laptops, many software drivers are proprietary, so your Windows XP installation CD won't have them.
The most important one is the network adapter- once that works you can download other drivers, but until then, you have no Internet access. The other biggies are your video and sound drivers.

all the laptops comes with a cd that includes all the drivers
if you are going to use windows xp sp2 then your sound card and network adapter will be automatically defined (99% of the cards)
for your graphic card you will need to download the latest driver if you want to take full advantage from the card
ATI cards (www.ati.com)
nvidia cards "Geforce" (www.nvidia.com)
one last thing to say, make sure you install a laptop edition to save battery

best thing you can do is install xp then when installed find out the driver names (via add hardwear) n then look for the drivers on the net as they will be out there somewhere (thats what i done anyway)
