This is my laptops specs. it's an alienware aurora m7700.

Is it possible to put a Nvidia 8500Gt w/512mb vram in it

Yes, indeed you can. However, if you aren't familiar with performing such modifications, I suggest that you send it to a professional, or simply send it back to Alienware. I think that they should switch them out for a reasonable fee.

Most laptops have the graphics chip integrated into the motherboard and cannot be upgraded. Your best bet would be to contact the manufacturer's customer support and ask them this same question. They will let you know if the graphics module is removable or is soldered into the motherboard.
Most likely you're stuck with your current graphics card.

With laptops you could never upgrade the graphics card. Most of the graphics is already put into the motherboard. All you can possibly upgrade on your laptop to put in more memory and change in hard drive if you want more hard drive space.
