You are better off with the newer dual core processors. Although the clock speeds are higher on the old single core Pentium 4 processors they are not nearly as efficient at executing commands as the newer dual core processors. By this I mean that the Pentium 4 would require 8 clock cycles to do the same work that the newer processors can complete in 5 clock cycles.
Because of these efficiencies the newer processors are faster than the older processors even though they are running at 2/3 to 3/4 the clock speed.
This means that even if you are running a game that cannot utilize both cores, it will still run faster on the newer processor with the lower clock speed. And, then on top of that you have the second core which will aid with multitasking, such as handling background processes that would otherwise interfere with your game program.
Hope this helps.

Definitely Dual Core. And, in fact, I'd recommend the Intel E6600 2x2.4Ghz processor - for the price it's one of the best around.

Dual core means it can multi task faster and dual core means it can do one thing very fast so i would go for dual core if your into gaming as it will be less glitchy
hope this helps

It really doesn't matter as long as you have a lot of RAM and a separate graphics processor.
