my laptop is getting old and now that i got the money i would like to get a new laptop, my laptop is a dell and its alright, but i really dont know about computers so what kinda laptop should i get with 1000 i want it for college, to download music burn cd's and dvds etc... i just need to for school and business i was looking at the new HP i think its kinda nice but many people have told me that HP sucks so what do u recommend thank you in advance

Have to recommend the HP 6000 with core 2 duo and dedicated vid. Looks like Dell has done away with the budget Intel 1505 series.

HP had problems selling Vista with 512 Ram units, still do(at least 1GB recommended).

Acre, HP, Sony, compaq, Alienware... really just about any brand except emachines or dell.....
I had a dell laptop that i repaired seriously over 30 times in a 6 month period because of multiple power issues ect... the last time it broke the repair would of cost me more than the laptop cost me so i lit it on fire and sent it to hell where Dells' belong.

Those people who told you that HP sucks are wrong. I have an HP laptop and I love it, never have any problems with it.

HP does not suck...as a matter of fact i personally think Dell sucks...HP and Compaq are one of the best you can get...I have a compaq c552us so far it is good.

Have a look at the Samsung R20 with 160GB drive, have a few of them and they also have full set of XP drivers should Vista pee you off.

I Have a Toshiba satellite and it's really nice.the only problem is Any fast paced RPG games don't work.But i suggest going with Toshiba
