Everything seems 1-2 years old. The whole computer seems like a left over basic style 2005-2006 XP computer they installed Vista on.
1) Vista Home Basic is garbage get Vista Home Premium
2) Vista requires a dual core type processor. The Celeron M processor is not suitable for Vista
3) Vista requires 1-2 GB RAM 2 GB is strongly preferred.
4) ATI Radeon Xpress 200m graphics controller introduced April 2005 (over 2 years ago) is old and slow by todays laptop standards. The cheapest Dell laptop has ATI Radeon® Xpress 1150 256MB HyperMemoryTM

ATI claims the Radeon Xpress 1150 offers a 33% performance increase over the Xpress 200M platform, with the only difference between the two IGP’s being clock speed.

I am a MCSE and A+ tech and did beta testing for Vista, if its loaded with any version of Vista, it is completly compliant, in software, hardware and memory.
If you want to make it more efficent, additional memory is fine, and there are some side programs installed that can be turned off, but until your sure about the operation of the computer, do not be deleting anything.
If you were to upgrade to Premium or Small business versions of Vista there are upgarded that may need to done, but with laptops as apose to desktops you are limited in what you can do.

Vista and 512MB of RAM is beyond ridiculous. Not to mention the fact that it's included with a Celeron. Do it right and get a better laptop. If you can't afford a better laptop, buy a desktop and take hand written notes.

I would go to 1GB ram. 512MB recommended for Vista Home but RAM is cheap right now, so upgrade if you can. I don't run Vusta yet because of the bugs and compatibility issues still around. Typically, you need to give MS a good year to work through everything they forgot to account for...

Be very carefull with what you get to run vista.. I don't know if that one is compatitble or not.. but my laptop is not compatible and I have better specs that what your wrote down..
Check out microsofts home page and look for vista info.. they should everything you need there..
Also Check out the laptop manufactures homepage.. they probably have information and drivers if needed for running vista on the laptop..
Good Luck!!!

To run Vista Home Basic you should have at least gig of RAM. I'm running Home Premium on my laptop with a gig and it works fine.

Relax, it just requires less than 10 GB and you don't need to worry, you have enough memory for Windows Vista Home Basic Edition. I hope my answer was right.
Thank you!

Minimum Requirements is 512MB. I recommend getting as much RAM as you computer can handle. More RAM equals better performance. If your computer can take 2GB then put it in. As far as the rest of your computer, upgrading isn't a matter of "IF you're going to do it", its a matter of "WHEN you're going to do it".

You should have at least 1GB. But Home Basic doesn't do much, it's no advantage over XP
