The fan is on all the time, running very loudly. I have started to use my laptop to do multi-track recordings of my music, but the fan makes for a lot of background noise with any miked recordings.
It doesn't matter if I have the computer running for a while or if I have had it turned off or sleeping; once the laptop is active, the fan runs all the time. I think it might have been different earlier, I seem to recall the fan coming on from time to time, but I admit I really didn't pay attention to it before I started trying to record my music. Is this a normal function for my computer? Is there something I can do about it?
I'm not worried so much just yet about getting around the noise problem on my recordings as I am about getting info on the normal functioning of my laptop and how to resolve this problem!
Thank You!

I am fixing an older laptop just for internet usage and I have no idea what kind of card or if I can even find one for this computer. It has this card type available:One (1) Type II or one (1) Type III PC Card slot with support for 32-bit CardBus. I am thinking it's different that pcmcia, but not positive. I really don't know much about older laptops. It is a COMPAQ 1200-XL118. If you can help me find a site or an avg. price I would greatly appreiciate it.

There is a symbol in the corner that tells me whether or not I am plugged in or if I'm not and I'm running on the battery. This laptop is a hp pavilion zv5000. Its only a couple years old. I have checked everything. I checked if it was plugged into the wall correctly, it is. I checked to see if the cords on the power source were connected properly, and it is properly connected to my computer. But for some reason, that symbol in the corner keeps changing to a battery (which means it's running on the battery) which is almost dead, by the way. I pull out the cord that connects to the computer and plug it back in, and the "plug" symbol comes up, but then (without me touching it), it goes back to the battery. What's wrong with this thing?
By the way, I had around 70% battery life last night, before I turned it off. Why is the battery below 10% when it wasn't even on? Please help me before my latop dies!

My Compaq Presario 1245 laptop is showing "Boot Disk Failure" at startup, and the Cd drive doesnt work. They both show up in BIOS, and I have tried changing the boot order. Booting from a floppy doesnt work either. Would the Cd drive not working be caused by the hard drive not working? Does the fact that they show up in BIOS mean that they still work?? What should I do??

Sound and video playack cuts out now and again, so basically stops for a few seconds, then continues. This has only just happened since i upgraded to Vista, could it be that my processor is taking too much of a thrashing, so it stops the video/sound when its working too hard, i have 512mb but it does this when no other programs are running, just for example itunes. Could it also e any problem with the soundcard, or maybe something, thanks.

I have problems with my laptop overheating and shutting down, but it seems to happen much more frequently when my kids are playing on Club Penguin. Is it related or just a coincidence?

Microsoft is forcing everyone to download SP2 update in order to overcome the daylight savings time change this year. Are Macs having the same problem, or did they think ahead and there are no downloads needed?

Occasionally, say once a quarter, my laptop screen will just fade to white during my using it. The laptop power will stay on, but the screen will just fade suddenly to white, over say 2-3 seconds.

I have a Sony Vaio PCG-K115B running Windows XP with all security patches installed - what is causing this problem?
