i have a laptop and im going on a long car trip down to florida from new york. my mom has a laptop and i was wondering if i could connect my xbox to it so that i can play it using the laptop as a tv screen. if i can do this, how can i? and do i need anything to do it?

Probably not. Some laptops have video inputs which you could connect your xbox to but most only have video outputs. If your mom's laptop does not already accept video inputs, you can buy an inexpensive TV far cheaper than you can modify a laptop.
