The fan is on all the time, running very loudly. I have started to use my laptop to do multi-track recordings of my music, but the fan makes for a lot of background noise with any miked recordings.
It doesn't matter if I have the computer running for a while or if I have had it turned off or sleeping; once the laptop is active, the fan runs all the time. I think it might have been different earlier, I seem to recall the fan coming on from time to time, but I admit I really didn't pay attention to it before I started trying to record my music. Is this a normal function for my computer? Is there something I can do about it?
I'm not worried so much just yet about getting around the noise problem on my recordings as I am about getting info on the normal functioning of my laptop and how to resolve this problem!
Thank You!

There is probably a setting in the BIOS that says whenever it is plugged into power to always run the fan. There might also be dust built up in the heatsink. Take some compressed air and blow it out.

Well, I have never done audio recordings of that type to a pc, but I will say that it is most likely just putting your cpu under heavy load. When this happens your processor heats up more than during normal usage. When the processor heats up, the fan turns on.

I would not worry about it unless the fan is not getting sufficient airflow.Possibly the heatsink is clogged with dust, clean it out with some compressed air. If you have it sitting on something that blocks the airflow to the vents, then you are going to want to move it to a flat surface.
