There is a symbol in the corner that tells me whether or not I am plugged in or if I'm not and I'm running on the battery. This laptop is a hp pavilion zv5000. Its only a couple years old. I have checked everything. I checked if it was plugged into the wall correctly, it is. I checked to see if the cords on the power source were connected properly, and it is properly connected to my computer. But for some reason, that symbol in the corner keeps changing to a battery (which means it's running on the battery) which is almost dead, by the way. I pull out the cord that connects to the computer and plug it back in, and the "plug" symbol comes up, but then (without me touching it), it goes back to the battery. What's wrong with this thing?
By the way, I had around 70% battery life last night, before I turned it off. Why is the battery below 10% when it wasn't even on? Please help me before my latop dies!

Welcome to the club. I had the same problem with my hp, its where the power plugs into the laptop, the pin inside breaks and renders it usless. you can't fix this easily and if its out of warranty its about 100 USD to fix plus shipping. I know 100% sure, thats what it is.

as a temporary fix, pull the power inlet toward you while holding the laptop still.

I just had the same problem with my 2 year old HP zv6130. The motherboard needed replaced. What is happening is that the AC sensor on the motherboard is going bad and needs replaced. Mine was odd though. If the adapter was plugged in, the battery showed, but never depleted. But if you held the monitor just right, the plug would come back. Take the laptop to a repair person and he/she should be able to fix it.

Hi. The power jack may have become loose. See if holding it to one side or another makes the plug icon come on. If so you can sometimes tighten the jack by gently closing the internal contacts with a dental pick. Also check for broken wires in the plug near the jack by wiggling them. Good luck!

Could be a problem with the AC Adapter, or the place you plug it in on the laptop, or the motherboard, or the battery. My suggestion would be to contact HP and have them service it (if it's still under warranty).
