i bought my first ever pc last feb it's an acer aspire 3610 laptop. the first year is almost up, and i have been asked if i would like to guarantee it for 85 pounds for another year. i am on the the pc for about 22 hours a week. the question is, how long do pc's last before it's time for a change, and are my chances of not guaranteeing, and the money going towards a new one worth the risk.

I have a Dell laptop with a very small hard drive, and can't afford a new one. I have a friend with a spare 80gig desktop hard drive. I'm wondering if I can get a casing for the desktop hard drive and attach it to my laptop with a cable? Will it be compatible? I'm not that cluey....

It sounds like a simple question, but I bought some "general purpose cleaning wipes" and they always leave streaks! It says on the box they are for keyboards and screens but I can only assume that they are for the glass screens of desktop PCs. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

I have a acer trvale mate laptop.Since of late when i scan for viruses or install a program the com[uter abruply shuts down corrupting the programs i was running at that time.

I tried formatting but after half way the compter shuts down on me.But i did do a quick format in reintalled.Its for king fine as long as i dont scan,run registry cleaners etc...is this a hard drive issue?
Any ideas?

I bought a laptop from a local computer store last year and purchased an additional service plan that allows me to get a new laptop if mine is ever power surged. So I figured its time to put the warranty into action.

Does anybody know an easy way how I can power surge my laptop? Is there any way of them knowing it was intentionally done?

I have a Dell Inspiron 8100. When I plug in my headphones, to quietly listen to music, the music sounds echoed, like you are listening to it be recorded in a studio. However, when I remove my headphones from my laptop, the sound is fine, no echo. What could the problem be and how can I fix it? Being a DJ I thought possibly the speakers could be blown on the laptop, but this may not be the case. It could just be a simple troubleshooting problem. HELP!

I just realized the screen saver on my Toshiba Satellite laptop is not working. I called the GEEK Squad and got NO help! Was told it may have something to do with the power supply/source? I've only had it 30 days and I either have to drive an hour and a half for them to see it or pay for phone help. It was working when I first got it and I did try a system restore back to that date. It did not help. No wild guesses please, I need someone who knows what to do. Would really appreciate help!!

Wireless internet question?
I just purchased a laptop and I want to use it wireless from time to time in free wireless internet locations, such as coffee shops, etc. My question is....do I need any special equipment to do that? I know for paid wireless you need a modem/router....but just wondering if anything extra is needed for the free wireless I mentioned.

Okay, so I think my fan must be broken (it is louder than normal).. but I am not able to bring it in for 3 weeks, as I need it for school work. What can I do to help keep the temperature down? It overheats enough that it turns itself off. Oh yeah it is a laptop...Any ideas would be great!!!

I recently purchased an additional 1024mb of RAM for my laptop. According to the Toshiba website, my laptop uses PC-2700 memory so that is what I ordered. Upon receiving my memory in the mail I noticed the receipt says "Free upgrade to PC-3200". If the memory would have worked without any problems I would have just left it, but it didn't. When I put the memory in, my computer will freeze or go to the blue screen (physical memory dump). I noticed that when I move the screen or tap on the computer is when it freezes up. I have no idea why that is related to the memory but when I take it out I can move the screen around all I want without any lockups or blue screens. Is there a driver I need for this? What is the problem? Is it because they sent me 3200? Can someone help me out?

i recently wanted to view a DVD a friend had sent me from the UK. when i tried to view it, the player suggested i change the region code of my lap top from 1 to 2, and it let me know that i could change it 4 more times.

now i'm trying to see some of my USA DVD's and can't find the program that changes the region code back to region 1. i know i can still do it as i've only changed it that once but i'm not sure where to look for this program. i have a compaq with windows XP installed.
