My dad is a buying a second hand laptop. Please suggest that is it good to go for it. If yes or no, please specify reasons.

The specifications are:

HP NX 7010
Centrino Processor
4 Hours battery life
512 RAM
40 GB HDD
DVD and CD Burner
3 USB ports
Fire Wire (I don't know what is this)
Infrared port
Bluetooth
SD Card Reader (What is this?)
15" Widescreen display
Windows XP professional in English

if it runs properly and has no problems, and if it actually comes with all thefeatures listed, than $440 is a bargain. laptops like that usually go for upwards of $800-$900

It will be very slow with Windows XP. Even basic things like booting up will be slow.

Firewall goes with the wireless connection bluetooth. If you are at Starbucks for instance, you can have free internet access (using bluetooth) without somebody being able to hack into your computer (because of the firewall).

The SD card reader is so you can plug in your memory card (I'm calling them cards because that's what they look like even though they are called sandisks) from your digital camera if your camera uses such cards/disks. Some cameras use memory sticks that you put in the USB port.
