I have a Dell Inspiron 8100. When I plug in my headphones, to quietly listen to music, the music sounds echoed, like you are listening to it be recorded in a studio. However, when I remove my headphones from my laptop, the sound is fine, no echo. What could the problem be and how can I fix it? Being a DJ I thought possibly the speakers could be blown on the laptop, but this may not be the case. It could just be a simple troubleshooting problem. HELP!

Mute the mic on the headset (assuming yours has a mic).

check and make sure that none of the sound enhancements are on. For example on my system I have it set for theater effects because of the large space I have for my speakers... when i plug in my headphones... it has a funky reverb sound unless I disable the enhancement

goto sound properties by clicking on volume icon on bottom right corner,

go to recording properties, select mic adjust to middle for left right volume

also check wave bar in sound properties, it it is too high then your sound will be echoed

one other thing is if you have some software like c-media installed with your sound card, check it's details also

it may have surround sound properties or environment properties
