i recently wanted to view a DVD a friend had sent me from the UK. when i tried to view it, the player suggested i change the region code of my lap top from 1 to 2, and it let me know that i could change it 4 more times.

now i'm trying to see some of my USA DVD's and can't find the program that changes the region code back to region 1. i know i can still do it as i've only changed it that once but i'm not sure where to look for this program. i have a compaq with windows XP installed.

You don't need a sperate program. it's in the hardware properties of the drive...just open 'my computer' right click the drive and get properties, select hardware tab. Pick out your dvd drive and get the properties again and go to the region tab.

You'll only get a few cracks at this until it's locked so if you plan to change back and forth you'll need to unlock the function. Unlocking RPE is a little different for each drive and I don't know what you're using but usually flashing the firmware on the drive will at least bring you back to the starting point of 5 changes. You'll have to do some googling with your specific model drive in mind.
