basically i m stuck between
hp dv2124 (intel core duo, 512 mb ddr2 ram, 80 gb hd, geforce graphics 256 mb)- costs 49500......and......
compaq v3149(amd 64x2, 1 gb ddr2, 120 gb hd, nvidia geforce graphics 128 mb)-costs 49500

i dont care about the size of hd....its just that i've heard amd cant sustain performance due to excessive heating...i would like the laptop to play games like aoe -3(graphic intensive)

also is there any problem with compaq as compared to hp...why does it cost less then??

I am about to go to the store and get something that is especially for cleaning LCD screens, but I thought that maybe it would be okay to use regular rubbing alcohol.. I suppose because it is a versatile household product.

I use a gateway notebook (I believe a 3060GZ). I was watching a movie (avi file) in windows media player. I closed it, and then suddenly my computer restarted, and wouldn't detect the power pack no matter what. No indicator lights, windows said it was running off the battery, etc.

About 45 minutes or so later (the computer was turned off), the indicator light came back on to say it was charging. I unplugged and plugged the power pack in again, and sure enough, it came back on. I haven't turned on the PC yet since I'm a little afraid to. Suggestions or ideas what went wrong and how to fix it?

I have an Acer Aspire laptop, running Windows XP, and lately my keyboard is very slow. I have to hold down each key for 1-2 seconds. VERY annoying, as I mostly use it to type. I've tried adjusting the keyboard settings in the control panel, to no avail. HELP! Thanks.

This is the rectangular black box that the cable from the battery plugs into. If I hold it in my hand it's almost hot enough to start stinging. Is this normal?

My mom lost her books/documentation for her laptop, in her move to AZ, and now it is up to me to help her find info on it so I can fix it? When I turn on the laptop, I can faintly see the desktop, but not good enough to do anything about it? How do you turn up the brightness or why is the screen so dim? She took it into a tech place in Mesa, AZ and asked them the question and they in turn added a bigger stick of RAM and a BIGGER Hard drive. But did nothing to fix the dim screen. RAM and a new HD were NOT needed. But my Mom is 72 and knows nothing about a PC except to chat on line and do email. So she paid the man $300 and took her machine home. Later she finds out that he did nothing to fix the screen. So since I was 1600 miles from her, she boxed it up and put it in the closet. She was majorly scammed. :-( Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Note: Why would she need a 30 GIG HD to chat online and do email ?

Walt Mossberg of the WSJ is a great high-tech reviewer, and recognizes quality when he sees it. He's recommended Apple computers a lot, but I'm curious if an Apple is actually his primary work computer. Does anyone know? (Mr. Mossberg, are you here?)

This item is up for bid for $100, barely used in like new condition. I want to use it to install Microsoft word, write, save to disk or hard drive. I dont' need anything fancy. Does anyone know anything about these? I'm a little scared cause it has no bids and I'm wondering why it's being avoided.

Right now I think I have about 256, it only shows 192 on the system when I pull it up, but the store we purchased it from says that it has over 200... I really don't know. We had the Notebook completely redone because it crashed.

My laptop has always been slow. I use my computer for uploading pictures from my digital camera. I have a few photo editing programs. Itunes/Mp3's, Ipod. Basically, my computer is used for fun and I don't really have many programs on here because it's already slow enough.

I don't know if I should go with a Gig or 512MB. What do you all suggest? Thanks.
