Yep, you need an external hard drive enclosure. They are just a small metal case that houses the hard drive. They can be connected usually with USB and some models have other methods. Depending on what size category your Seagate hard drive is will lead you to what type of hard drive enclosure you can get. If you have a 1.8", 2.5", or 3.5" then you need an enclosure that accepts that category. Most laptop drives are 2.5" and most desktop computers feature 3.5" drives.
I recently purchased an external LAN drive enclosure (Ethernet connected). I'm able to connect to my hard drive via my Local Area Network or it gives me the option to plug it in by USB. It cost me around the neighborhood of $55. I found this model here

There are many models to choose from other than this. If you are unsure of what brand to choose from then go with adaptec or some major manufacturer. Remember that some models come with a hard drive installed...you don't need that. You are looking for the empty enclosure model. Take a look at what ports (USB, Firewire, or Ethernet) you have available and pick the enclosure that suits your needs.

Ok, im not 100% sure what your asking but here goes.. if this is a laptop h.d. to a laptop h.d. then your best bet is to burn to a c.d. or use a flash drive, if both drives are working.. and will boot. If this is a destop to a hard drive you can network them together w/ a patch cable, this is a bi-directional ethernet cable for the LAN port (RJ45) connection.Being that laptops do not have 2- chanels on the IDE ATA and UATA then you cant piggy back (one slave drive and one master) if you do which there are a rarity to find, then you can do that. Another rarity is if you have a laptop with riad aka SATA which i know they make some but very rare. Flash drive, network togeather, or burn files to c.d. is your best bet. Either way:)
If you have any questions feel free to e-mail me on the e-mail address on my site. Let me know how it goes!

If so then just connect it to the laptop once xp detects it and install it then you can open my computer and see the new hd and just copy the files you want.the other way around is if you have a network you can put the external HD share mode then connect to that hd and copy the files you want

First you buy a hard drive enclosure. Then you can connect your external hard disk through USB interface and transfer all the data's to your laptop.

You should be able to just drag and drop the files onto the laptop. If not the external hard drive may be corrupted.

through USB port from both sides.
If your external hard disk already has usb connection, so you can just connect it to usb port on your laptop. If and of them does not have USB port, so you need a convertor. ( serial port to usb port )
