It happens when you have conflicting software on your computer. Or If your windows registry is filled with obsolete entries. Or If you have a lot of programs running at windows startup. etc.
Try to go through each problem seperately.
1)To begin with, click on start > run
type msconfig. Press OK
Click on STARTUP tab.
Uncheck all unwanted entries there that you do not need at startup.Press Apply. Press Close. Press Restart to Reboot the computer.Check the box in the window that appears after startup and close it. These settings can be undone whenever needed.

2)if possible uninstall some programs from your computer which are not essential.
(start > control panel >add/remove programs)
If your computer hangs doing that, then press F8 during reboot, and select to open the computer is SAFE MODE. Then uninstall some programs.

3) Use ccleaner
try running the following two menus of ccleaner
cleaner > Analyze > Run Cleaner
issues > Scan For Issues > Fix Selected Issues

hi,

Can you be little more clear what exactly happens before freezing

The main reason might be
1, Bad sectors on your hard disk.
2, Bad registry files.
3, Virus.
4, Corrupt files

Try to do this

first run disk management like disk defragmentation, then check for errors.
or go to start menu on the run command type " REGEDIT" then go to " HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE" remove the registry keys of unused files.
check if this helps you.

use latest antivirus and check if any virus might present.

if any of the above does not help then only option is to reinstall the operating system.

when you first turn it on, you need to Ctrl-Alt-Del to see your task manager and look at the performance, and run a good anti-virus search. it might help to disconnect from the net. make sure that the PF usage isn't too high, like more than 5 bars up, or you'll need more memory just for basic operation of your system. if you have a virus, remove it, then disk cleanup and defrag the system. hopefully that works.
