I use a gateway notebook (I believe a 3060GZ). I was watching a movie (avi file) in windows media player. I closed it, and then suddenly my computer restarted, and wouldn't detect the power pack no matter what. No indicator lights, windows said it was running off the battery, etc.

About 45 minutes or so later (the computer was turned off), the indicator light came back on to say it was charging. I unplugged and plugged the power pack in again, and sure enough, it came back on. I haven't turned on the PC yet since I'm a little afraid to. Suggestions or ideas what went wrong and how to fix it?

Sorry about that, the computer didn't restart, it just shut off - I had to turn it back on.

This looks like it can be a fun one ...

How about you try this
1) Boot your computer
2) goto control panel
3) open the power setting
4) if there is a restore default setting button use it
5) if not "4)" then "6)"
6) set your power setting to the best you can do try each of then if you need to ..
7) reboot
Now we all know it can not be this simple but try this first if it does not work out then no harm done..if it does WOW no more problem and the simple answer worked..
if not you can sent me an email and i will go into a more advance trouble shouting mode with you more info on your system will be need..GOOD LUCK My Friend!!

Might be a hardware problem, the connector that the power cord goes in may be loose. Suggest if its under warranty that you call Gateway.
