The best entertainment pc you could possibly buy would have windows vista ultimate would be a good enterteinment pc. It has Media center and in order to run it you have to have good specs. Enough for the casual to maybe even hardcore gamers. With vista you may want to make sure it has a preview screen which is a small screen in the top that shows stuff like email and weather that you probably wouldn't want to go through the hasle of booting up your system if you could get around(faster than any other windows version) Make sure its dual core and at least a couple gigs of ram. You want to make sure you get a large harddrive(100 gigs or more) because one you got to have room for your files. 2 vista automatically backs up the system but you got to have a place to put that. 3 extra space on your harddrive can be used as ram(you could also use a usb flash drive to increase ram) Check specs on the sites listed below to know what to look for.

Sorry for the long post

A couple extra things that are important factors are the battery charge life and the harddrive. If it is an entertainment computer, you will want a larger harddrive because the files for videos are larger than things like sound clips. A good graphics card for your needs would be either 256 MB or 512MB. The two usual companies prefered are NVidia or ATI.

First of all since it is for entartainment, consider the size of the screen. 15" is good but 17" would be better. Next be sure to get one with good resolution and brightness. As for the graphics memory get at least 256MB. Higher is better to run graphics software. Good luck and hope I helped a little.

Shally: i actually requested the same question with reference to the processor. i became going to bypass with the "el cheapo" kind from Dell which has a "Celeron" processor. The solutions persuaded me to bump up a notch and get the better processor for some more desirable speed and it is already paying dividends. I paid about an more desirable $one hundred fifty for the better processor, and compared to what you pay a month for information superhighway provider, the speed more desirable than makes up for it.
