It is really apples and oragnes, the Pentium M is a laptop processor, so its big features are power saving. The Pentium D is a desktop processor, so its definately more powerful, but consumes power.

I prefer Pentium M's because they use less power. They are not quite as fast for raw number crunching but they are optimized for applications so they can be faster in real world applications.
