Laptops & Notebooks - November 2006

I want to play games in it, the Sims for example, and I also need it for work in school. I've been wondering about apple macbook, or something from apple. Are those good? What do you think about laptops from apple? I am willing to spend some money,it doesn't have to be cheap, I just want a really good computer. So.. what do you recommend?

at presentations, theres a cable that is connected from a laptop to a projector to project whatever is on the laptop onto the screen. anybody can help with the name of this cable? thanks

Note: the better and newer models such as g5 or notebook laptops. And what do i need if i want to edit videos play music and games without it lagging. What kind of software or hard ware would i need and how much would it cost?

I am trying to decide if I should buy a laptop with Pentium M, AMD semprom, AMD turion, or Celeron. Does it matter which one I select if I am only going to use this computer for light work/excel usage, play chess, surf the internet and maybe play some dvd every now and then? PLEASE HELP!!!

I have an old IBM thinkpad and it doesn't have an operating system. I was thinking of installing one but my laptop only has a floppy disk drive and not a cdrom. So my question is how would I go about installing an operating system on a laptop with no cdrom drive?

I want to use Photoshop CS2 a lot? I want to get a laptop/notebook but I have no idea what to look for in one. I do a lot of image manipulation and would like to get into a bit of digital art using programs like Bryce and Poser. Can anyone tell me what sort of thing I would need in a laptop to make it perform well at these tasks?
PS I know a desktop would probably be better for this kind of thing but I spend a lot of time away from home so I need the portability of a notebook.

But the problem is my computer takes a long
time to start up and close down.
and sometime my computer will not start all.
then i have to turn it of and start it up again.
Will putting more ram on fixes this problem
or am i wasting my money,
is my computer on its way out ?
Should i be looking at a new computer insteed

My cdrw/dvd drive doesn't seem to want to work... whenever I put a cd in it won't pick it up, but the cd drive light flashes and the little cd picture next to the mouse arrow appears.
however it picks up copied cds and blank cds fine, and I can copy things onto cds still. its a laptop computer
This is getting really annoying as it can't be broken or surely it wouldn't pick up any type of cd. it used to work fine
