That depends greatly on what your sound hardware is, your amplifier is, and what they both have for inputs and outputs! About the best answer you will get is you will need a 1/8th inch stereo jack to RCA out patch cord. Take your laptop to the local radio shack and they will have what you need. Your best bet is to read up on your PC ducmentation.

you just need a plug to rca cable an d plug it to your home stereo and put your laptop volume to 2/3 of power

I use my laptop on my home stereo & also on my disco amp all the time.
I connected it using the laptops headphone socket (3mm jack) to the aux input on my stereo (phono plugs).
I got my leads from Maplins, but any good electrical retailer should stock them

If you have a Mac just use air-tunes to send it wirelessly and avoid the cable clutter.

you will need a stero jack for the pc end and rca connectors for your hi-fi.
