Sounds like you do have too many applications, like I did. Adding more RAM will fix the problem. It cost me $60.00, and it was worth it; isn't that aggravating!
Hope this helps.

Your computer load all most all program at start up and in this context many applications conflict with other program,so delay causes the problems for you. From the task bar click setting and remove some program which you don't need every now and than.If you are thinking of buying a new computer,Please hold your horse! Microsoft is going to introduce new Window Vista more secure and modern digitalized way in Dec or Jan,so buy with a new system. If you like to buy right now it's time cause many manufacturers like Gateway,HP,Sony,Toshiba and acer and some others are offering at rock bottom prices.By Christmas you will have a more cheaper system will be available. So check it on the prices and buy from the company who promise to upgrade your system with a Window Vista at a nominal price.

Sometimes having too many Spyware Detection Programs/Firewalls/ANtiVirus Programs in the SysTray causes the speed to go down dramatically, if you have Lavasoft Ad-Aware and Spybot Search and Destroy scan with them and Windows Defender, these are all free and are the most effective. BUt adding more laptop memory can erase a few of your problems. Adding laptop memory is much easier on a laptop so thats an advantage.

Adding more RAM always helps, but this is not the case here it sound the hard drive has some bad tracks run chkdsk with fix errors option if that did nut fix it you need to take it to computer shop and replace the hard drive.

If your PC is older then 4 years old, chances are you need a new pc. a lack of memory shoul not cause your computer to shut down, unless you have a Operating sytem on the computer that is way to advanced for your computer.
If i were you i would get a new computer, Dell had really good deals $400-$600 for a decent computer, if your looking for a gaming computer i would recommend you go here instead, you can get a gamer pc (mid lvl) for $500-$800

Sounds to me more like you have too many applications loading on startup! Disable some of the crap you have running in the task bar! You people need to understand that a PC only has so much ram to run apps! The more chit you have running, the slower your system will be! Its like tryin to pull a cattle trailer up a hill with a volkswagon!

Somebody skilled at cleaning up computers would do you a lot more good than extra ram. You probably have twenty old forgotten things starting up with Windows that are bogging it down.

You really didn't give much info on your pc so there is very little I can say. More ram never hurts in my opinion.
As far as slow start ups go, you could go into your msconfig and disable some stuff in your start up. That should help some. As I stated, without knowing more about your pc there is very little I can tell you.

Try running spyware detectors that may help. Is your computer running slow when you're using it? Does it take a long time to launch programs? If your computer is running slow you may have spyware or you may have insufficient RAM. Update then run anti-spyware programs. If it's not spyware make sure you're not running too many programs at once. If you have trouble launching programs try defragmenting your hard drive.
