I want to use Photoshop CS2 a lot? I want to get a laptop/notebook but I have no idea what to look for in one. I do a lot of image manipulation and would like to get into a bit of digital art using programs like Bryce and Poser. Can anyone tell me what sort of thing I would need in a laptop to make it perform well at these tasks?
PS I know a desktop would probably be better for this kind of thing but I spend a lot of time away from home so I need the portability of a notebook.

the most important thing in a laptop for graphical work is the graphics card. look for one with dedicated ram. names are ATI X1400, X1600 or GeForce Go 7200 or 7400. there are also much better graphics card like the GeForce 7900GS or 7900GTX but available laptops with these cards are pretty expensive (e.g. Dell XPS M1710).
the second most important thing is the memory. it should be at least 1GB (2GB).
then follows CPU and hard disk. CPUs are that fast nowadays so clock frequency is no more that important. more important is the CPU type (Photoshop works best on a dual core CPU). you can either go for an AMD Turion X2 or better Intel Core Duo or even better a Core 2 Duo.
Another aspect is the screen quality. look for names like Brightview, TruBrite, UltraBright, Truelife a.s.o.
with these specs you have all that's needed.

some suggestions of laptops they have these specs
HP: dv6000z, dv6000t, dv9000z, dv9000t
Toshiba: Satellite A105, P100
Dell: XPS M1710

You will need a laptop with a minimum of 1 Gb of memory and a dedicated graphics card optimally with around 512 Mb of video memory.

Processor speed is not so important, I suppose 2ghz would be more than enough.

However, memory can be really importat, so get as much as you can! Bare in mind that most laptops can get a memory extension chip as an upgrade!

Also, make sure it has a good screen!

good luck!
