If I want to sell it outright, how do I get all of my information erased from it? Or is there a place that buys, reconfigures and resells laptops?

It is in excellent condition, but the REAL problem is: I can't load any software onto it...it says that I need my original Windows ME cd-rom, and I do not have it. So, I can't install my mp3 player or anything else on it. I also wanted to upgrade to XP, but couldn't do that either without either the cd-rom or spending a couple hundred $$

you can just reformat it. put in your operating system cd and restart your computer. the setup program should start and then ask you if you want to repair the os or reformat it. reformat it. if you're not sure, take it to a computer repair shop and i'm sure they can help you.

well depends on the specifications of the laptop since if its really old its not worth selling and best putting in the bin, but to remove all data i would advise getting a program like drivescrubber.
