Desktops - May 2007

I was wondering which is more important, memory or memory type, would 512 mb ddr2 be better than a 256 gddr3?

I'd appreciate some insight on the whole topic, what is the significance of ddr2 and ddr3 and what does G mean when added to either.
Also, how do i know if my motherboard is compatible with gddr3 or ddr2?

Now before you are too quick to reply with the obvious, I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND that the internet is literally millions of networked computers and there isn't one computer that is some kind of internet master computer.....REALLY, I get that. A few years ago, I happened to catch 20/20 or Dateline where they showed the viewers these enormous supercomputers underground and they told us that this is where the internet is located and even made reference to monitoring content and viruses and stuff. Where are these huge supercomputers? Is there really a main internet gateway of these supercomputers? Offer a link if you can.

i have d101ggc board , 256 MB ddr memory and p4 3.06 ghz .now what do u think i can do to upgrade my system? shall i buy another "256MB ram" or a brand new " ATI video card". i dont have any AGP slots but i have pci- express !

Monitor screen turns black from get go. light turns green then instantly yellow when power is pressed? The problem is not with my computer because i tested to see if it was working with a different monitor and it was just fine. Everything was plugged in perfectly. So does this mean that I need a new monitor or is there something i can do to fix it?

I currently own a laptop, but it doesn't have the juice I need to run my software. I was thinking about buying a desktop. But, I hear that building my own PC can save me big bucks. Okay so, my computer kept freezing so I restored it..but then when I tried going through the set-up pages at the beginning, it kept stopping at the same spot each time..then sometimes my CPU wouldn't turn on at all. So I let my friend check it out and first he thought it was a hardware problem, but today he said it's the restore disc's that's not working properly..so my question is, where could I buy windows XP restore disc's for an emachines computer at?? I have been having problems every since i got lime wire. a friend of mine has this old pc he bought from a guy in the pub it has no name or anything (think he makes them up himself) when you turn it on it says "American
Megatrends" it worked well for years but something has happend to it recently, when my niece turned it on it did not start and message came up on screen saying that "\system32\hal.dll" is corupt or missing please re-install a copy of the file. After typing this into my own browser it says something about reinstall windows 98 or millenium edition, but the thing is i know for a fact that it was running xp pro. where do i get this file and how do i re-install it once i have it ?

I had a dell laptop, yesterday I bought an Acer Desktop that has Windows Vista. My internet is now disconnecting randomly and when I try and download torrents or off limewire, it keeps getting failed connections, at least for larger files, like 700mb or something like that, its gettting really annoying...i like the new computer, but i dont want to reset my internet conencttion all the time, and I want to be able to download things like on my old computer! im posting this rather vague question about my friends dell desktop simply because its not mine and i dont know much about it. my friend has a dell desktop that she says "it overheats and wont turn on for days at a time" i dont know she thinks its a fan problem but i dont think that would paralize it for days, but any help would be apreciated. anything such as if you have a problem like this with a solution. if you havnt noticed my id is macguy11935 meaning i dont know anything about pc's. thanks --seth

My summer vacation just started. I wanted to do a project over the summer rather than just sitting around doing nothing. So I decided to create/build my 1st pc. I own a dell unit and tried upgrading it and its a pain! So i decided to build my own desktop for experience and upgrade in the future wont be as painful!
