I am having problems adding new hardware. For instance a memeory stick for my daughter and an mp3 also. The problem is that an icon comes up in the bottom of the screen says found new hardware and then the new hardware wizard programme comes up but will not install as cant find software. I run windows xp and i have tried all usb ports( 6)and they all work fine but it is getting really frustrating. PLEASE HELP.

I have occasion maybe 2-3 times a month that I need to receive a fax. Every free fax service I find has a monthly charge. I have a fax machine/printer/scanner but can't get it to work with my computer/phone/voicemail therefore I was searching a stand alone provider. Didn't want to spend much just to receive 2-3 faxes, sometimes none, per month. Maybe I need to spend more time establishing the one I already have.

Okay well my mom was trying to print some things last night. the printer started making noises like it was choking on something. When I opened it up the band that the cartridges run back and forth on was coming apart. It had all these inky strings hanging off it. Needless to say we couldn't print anything else. I was wondering if this can be replaced and if so is it cost effective? Our printer is an 880 HP Desk Jet.

Hi there
Our normal PC guy is no longer supply computers and I dont know where to start! We use the computer daily for internet, msn and gaming, we also put pics on there too and small business use (wordprocessing and spreadhseets). I am totally confused with Dual core, SATA, GB's MB's etc etc. Can anybody give me some good advice. We already have a printer and want to keep the old computer too, but want a flat screen, better speakers etc. Please be kind and give advice in English and not computer Jargon. After showing the toshiba image, the computer asks for a password. This happened after it hanged and turned itself off. I don't remember putting in a power on or supervisor password. I tried reformatting my laptop but the I cant seem to make the recovery disc work. Please help me. All my important files are in that laptop.

My company issued me a Sony Vaio laptop and a HP printer. The Sony laptop has a USB port. But the printer has a cord that is a 50-pin scuzzy.

Therefore, the normal parallel connector cord sold at stores like Office Max doesn't do the job at connecting the two machines.

The cord from the printer is called a 50-pin scuzzy. Where can I buy a connector that is able to hook up with the printer from the laptop's USB?

I have tried blank CD-R's (52xcompatible 700mb) but these only burn music. Can you tell me a specific disc I can buy to use in windows media. I have limewire and have downloaded films through this. I just need a compatible disc. I am using windows xp and have windows media 11 installed.

It can be working fine one minute, speed okay and you don't have to be on the internet and it will freeze for no reason - it gets very annoying when you have to start it up all over again, and especially if you are in the middle of typing up a document!!!

My computer boots up normally and then goes for approximately 10/15 mins (if i am lucky). The case fan and CPU fan both turm off and the cpu gets hotter. Eventually the computer just turns off presumably because its too hot, does anyone know why and how to fix it? I have replaced the fans and PSU already but neither have any effect.

I am mainly concerned because i "made" this PSU with a friend of mine which means i put my own silent fans instead of the default ones and cut what we did not need and added what there was a need for.

The thing is that after 1.5years my computer is starting to act up weird occasionally. It just freezes and I have to reset.
There is no set time on when it freezes, it just does whenever it feels like but never manages to stay on for more than 2 days.
Maybe its time to get a proper PSU?


The temps are quite cool.
AMD 2400 at 41c
WD 250GB at 29c
And MSI KT600 delta at 36c

the geek squad didn't even backup my data. my compaq laptop's connector pin is broke and it needs to be fixed. so I bought a new computer. I needed my files from the compaq to be uploaded on the new one (toshiba satellite).

what materials do I need to do it myself? is it hard?

geek squad charged me $99 and I don't want to go back up there for them to waste my time. they could've done it the first time.

I am having consistant top cover jams, it happens every time i try to print something. it seems to get stuck under the toner cartridge everytime. i checked the roller, and it seems fine. I don't think its a sensor, but i could be wrong. this is the first time i've attempted to fix a printer. any suggestions?

It's an Athlon 2.2 Ghz dual processor with 1024 GB RAM and a Radeon X1650 graphics card. The guy at the computer shop assured me it would run my sims 2 and settlers games. So far so good, but the sims is still a bit slow. At least it doesn't crash anymore. BTW, getting to grips with Vista was quite an ordeal and reloading all my software like giving birth to a new baby. But it's just about done!
