I guess I need to clarify a bit...so I am sure that I understand your suggestions. It's a 17" flat screen monitor. Pictures in emails or on websites look short and squat. That's my issue...I want things to look "normal". lol!

Change the screen resolution.
By choosing display in control panel and
click settings tab.
Move the resolution slider to best value.

If you are talking about the size of photos (or anything else) that only depends on the screen size and zooming done by the viewer software.

But if you are talking about wrong aspect ratio (the ratio of the screen-s width and height) you should try the different resolutions, some may be inappropriate for your monitor.

i.e.
1024×768 is 4:3
1280×960 is 4:3
but
1280×1024 is 5:4

if your monitor is 4:3 and you set the screen to a 5:4 resolution (or the other way around), it will be distorted

First, set the desktop resolution to match the native resolution of the screen. This will get you the clearest picture.

Next, do not force the pictures to fill the screen, they will be stretched to the aspect ratio of the screen rather than the aspect ratio that they were taken in.

Out of proportion?

One thing I would try is changing the resolution.

Right click the desktop, scroll down to properties. Click the tab to the right of the box that comes up, you'll see a lever. Move it to the left to make things bigger, move it to the right to make them smaller.
