i need to find a laptop fairly cheap for college

Local newspaper classifieds probably the best bet as you looking close to you and can see and use before you buy.
Places like "Overstock.com" have refurbished. But, you not know what you get until you get. Can be a real hassle returning and Blah, Blah. I browsed Wal-Wort last night checking prices of LCD monitors and they have a new laptop for less than $400 (Everex), but, may be a little more after taxes, shipping, etc.
But, I would lean more toward something Used and Local. Windows XP or 2000. I a little cautious of Vista for now. Also Linux getting fairly easy for a person with experience with Command Lines like the old DOS.
I wanted to add this;
I would not pay more than $150 for a used Laptop. Here my reasoning. If, the battery old, think another $100 on top of what you paid. Overstock say refurbished? Does that include a new battery or one that need replaced in 6 months? A used laptop for $400 and you have to replace the battery for $100 is $500. Many new computers with some kind of warranty for that price. So, really think and do your math for a good deal.

Go to best buy. They are cheap and the service is great. Every week they have different deals so be patient.

Best buy has some pretty decent ones on sale this week. Some 399.00 some 599.00 (laptops) check them out.

inexpensive, inexpensive, inexpensive ! Go to Sam's Wholesale where their electronics warranty is 6 months.!! Unheard of these days where warranty from store is usually 14 days!

ebay....and someone said best buy..both of my computers came from there..they always seem to have the best deals in my town.
