After showing the toshiba image, the computer asks for a password. This happened after it hanged and turned itself off. I don't remember putting in a power on or supervisor password. I tried reformatting my laptop but the I cant seem to make the recovery disc work. Please help me. All my important files are in that laptop.

Go to the control panel, click on user accounts, now look at change pass word<<<<<< if there is'nt a password allready in your profile Vista should say Create a password.
If indeed there is a password in your profile click enter new password and dont put anything as your password and click ok.

boot to the Vista disk and choose repair, if you already formatted it then you lost all your files but they maybe recoverable with some sort of data recovery software, try someone like the geek squad for that
