since I heard Vista takes up a lot of unnecessary Ram and is quite buggy...
and well the only thing im concerning is if i install xp, will future vista designed software be compatible with it since for sure vista isn't compatible with a lot of xp-designed softwares right now...

My friend and I took the back panel off of his laptop to see how much memory he had, and the memory stick says "512 MB" right on it. However, when the system boots, it only says 384MB. What's the problem here? Is the memory bad?

Please, only answer if you are sure of what you're saying.
Sources are appreciated as well.

Thanks.

My parents have a dell computer that uses the old USB 1.0 ports.
I cannot under any circumstances install a new USB 2.0 port board. Is there any way to adapt a USB female plug into a Firewire input?

I customized two notebooks online, one Sony Vaio VGN-FE890 and one Hp dv6000t. I made them both pretty much the same and one is 200 dollars cheaper, but which brand do you recommend?

What I want to know is will all this be compatible?
Also, what else will I need? I know I will need speakers, a keyboard, and a mouse, a monitor and a network card. Do USB ports come on the motherboard, or is that something I will need to buy seperately?
I have never built a computer before... What else am I going to need?

Hello. I am interesting in building a computer. I posted this on a forums website, and a person told me which parts to buy. However, I do not know if these parts will all fit. I have never built a computer, so I dont know if you need certain parts for certain things. So, will all these parts fit together so I can build it?

I just did a minor upgrade by replacing my processor, old one was a p4 1.6ghz and the new one i just tossed in is p4 2.4ghz

problem is , i downloaded the intel processor ID tool and it says

................... Expected ...................... Reported

Speed: ...........2.40 GHz ............ 1.81 GHz
System Bus: .........533 MHz .......... 400 MHz
L2 Cache Memory: ............. 512kb

so it seems the new processor i tossed in aint working at full specs,
do i have to upgrade my bios possibly?

*note* i didn't change MB, just the processor

would appreciate any help on this.. thanks

I'm looking for an old laptop. I am looking for something/anything that I can put my jobs program on it and bring it on appointments. No need to get on the internet or wireless, but that would be a plus... I am looking to spend $100. So anyone out there?

Are the resources on the EX mobo capable of ripping a DVD to an ISO image and storing it on a local hard drive for later playback in a Microsoft OS environment? What about arcade emulation software such as Nintendo or Nintendo 64? Can the EX mobo handle these applications?

today i was trying to download a file but all of a sudden it said no space in my drive. then i opened the properties of my hard drive and i saw that all the space was used but that is impossible. then i went to add or remove program and added all the space that the software and other stuff in my computer takes up. it was 7 gb altogether but my hard drive is 69 gb. then i opened my pictures folder properties and it was 2.18 gb. but all the things in my hard drive takes up only about 9.18 gb but my hard drive is 69 gb. and if i count all the other file it would probably be like 10 gb. what is wrong?
