Before you buy any computer you should do some research.... Check out the after sales service by calling the support line if it takes forever to get through then don't buy the product, cause if you ever need after sales support then you want a fast service
then check out the user support group, see what complaints they have,
As for your choice there is only one thats sony but even so check them out also...

I bet the HP is the cheaper of the two. They are both name brands and good computers I would buy the Sony, but if I was going to buy another lap top I would get a new Toshiba Satellite with Intel Core 2 Duo Processor and as much ram and as large of a hard drive as I could afford. I have two Toshiba lap top computers and have been very satisfied with both.
Hope this helps

I have bought HP computers, and more than once, both new and used, and found them to be of excellent quality. We have bought products from Sony and had nothing but trouble with them.
I would put Sony into the same class as the Trabant of the computing industry, Packard Bell, and personally, I'd say, never buy anything from Sony. But that's my opinion based on how I've had problems with them.

You really need to research the tech support, warranties, and the specific place your computer was actually built. If you buy a Sony, personally I would prefer it to be built here because of past issues they have had But all in all Sony is the one I would go with.

Nowadays all laptops are using similar vendor parts and durability is also same except Lenovo and Dell ( Lennovo is higher end and robust... Dell is made of cheap quality) , so if configuration is same.... go for the cheapest one..
