My parents have a dell computer that uses the old USB 1.0 ports.
I cannot under any circumstances install a new USB 2.0 port board. Is there any way to adapt a USB female plug into a Firewire input?

properly on a computing gadget it is not so ordinary as plugging in a Firewire PCI card for the reason that there are no PCI slots to plug it into. ;) The cable is costly for a reason because of fact a Firewire gadget isn't basically changing to a distinctive connector to make it USB. It has to transform standards from IEEE 1394 (Firewire) to USB. bypass with the computing gadget Card adapter the guy above pronounced.

I think you're going to need a firewire card and port adapter.

Usually under $15 each.
