It's because you have a standard OEM computer with a proprietary locked BIOS. OEM's lock them because they don't want people screwing up their machines, causing the companies to get hit with warranty and support charges.

If you want to overclock, either build your own systems, or buy from enthusiast manufacturers such as Falcon, Voodoo, ABS Computer, Alienware, Hypersonic, etc.

Stay away from the Dell's, Gateway's and Hewlett-Packards of the world.

If you want to overclock that particular system, then you're going to have to get a new motherboard.

UPDATE:
House, you're quite the astonishing moron. You just don't get anything, do you?

Why risk the overclock when you are running that kind of speed...maybe in a couple of years when your computer is lagging..then email HP and ask them why...plus, do you really want to putz with an HP???

Compaq/ Hp are fond of proprietary designs that are intended to give hell to people who would bother to tinker w/ their designs.

I would be more interested in knowing what type of boob would overclock a machine that is already faster than anything he could possibly need!

Flash your motherboard with a new BIOS. Viola, your multiplier is no longer locked.

some motherboards have a jumper on them. find out what the model number is on the motherboard and look for a manual on it. it should tell you were it is located and how to change it.
