My PC boots and then in an instant it is silent again

The hard disk lights up when I boot but then in 0.1 second everything stops

What could be the problem?

Thanks in advance

I currently have a mac iBook G4 that is 3 years old and needs to be replaced. (Ridiculously short battery life, limited memory etc) I'm considering getting a PC instead of getting another mac. Is it difficult to switch all my files (mainly concerened about my iTunes library, photos, movies etc) to a new PC?

1. Does it slow down your system significantly? If so, by how much (%)?

2. Does it make it harder to retrieve data if something goes wrong (such as a drive crash)?

3. Can you compress a drive with data in it? Or does it only work for empty drives?

4. Please tell me if this will work:
I have two drives, C is where Windows is installed, E is an empty drive. I'm going to compress E drive, copy the entire C drive and then paste it into E drive. Then format the C drive, and compress it for future data storage. Now the computer has to boot up from the E drive, can the computer automatically boot from E drive or do I have to do something? I'm using XP.

Thanks.

One Laptop is an Everex Stepnote NC1502 it's got 1.5MGZ 80GB and 512 MB of Ram, IEEE 802.11b/g wireless LAN and it has 15.4 display and a C7-M processor and it's $498.00 the other is a Toshiba Satellite a105-S2236 it hasalmost the same exact features except it's got an M Celeron 520 Processor,1.6MGZ, Atheros 802.11b/g WLAN and a Super-Multi DVD drive dual layer, but it's $656.00, I also need Office 2007 for my schoolwork and thats $149.00 so I really cannot afford to buy the pricier one, but am I sacrificing something by buying the cheaper Laptop? I really only need the laptop for school work, surfing the web(having mutiple windows open at the same time) and I will have Wireless DSL Internet so is it better to go to the cheaper one or the more expensive one?
Here is the link to the Everex

Hi, I've had this computer for 5-6years. It was a shitty computer to begin with (Even when I first bought it) I didn't know anything about computers back then. It's so slow that, everytime I play computer games with my friends, they think I have SLOW INTERNET.(I have yahoo sbc) Anyways, I'm planning to purchase a new computer soon. My friend recommended me to www.alienware.com But I don't really want to spend 2000-5000dollars on a mere computer, nor am I a hardcore gamer(and they look ugly). I would go to Fry's, but unfortunately there is none in my neighborhood. What I want is basically, a GOOD computer. I would say for gaming purposes/entertainments. In a range from $900-$1200. And no, I don't want any customize-built computers. I want a computer with known brand, and something that A LOT of people bought this year 2007. Reason being, is because this is probably the last time my parents will buy me a computer. So I want to make sure, it's fast/large in space, and wont be obsolete ..

Seeing how my old laptop harddrive does not work anymore, I was wondering

1) Can I install the harddrive, then run the recovery disks that came with my laptop to install a OS on it?
2) If not, do I have to purchase a Windows Vista?
3) And if I do have to purchase a Windows Vista, do I have to get the more expensive of the deal? (the full package, not upgarde version)
4) What Internal Notebook Hard drive is better? I see SATA and ATA and other things, and am confused?
5) My Laptop has intel Integrated Graphics extreme (something), and will that run Windows Vista properly? The store I am at only has Ultimate edition (i think that is what it's called, it is black)

Sorry for all the questions. =[
