i wouldnt recommend it because it can shorten the life of your hardrive to leave it on for too long(say maybe 75 to 100 hrs).
i like using the standby feature but i try to turn my pc off at least once every two days. i do this because a lot of temp files accumulate quickly from going in and out of those different modes.
p.s. -if your pc is healthy than starting up and shutting down should be fairlly quick.
i would recomend regular maintenance(disc cleanup, defrag, occasional scan disk or disk check)
check for and remove any mailicious software
compressing files
cleaning up your registry
i do these things regularly and my pc is highly stable and very quick

hybernation does turn the computer off, if you hybernate and pull the power lead out the back of the computer and plug it back in and turn it on, windows will come out of hybernation no problems, the misconception seems to be that hybernate is some how like stand-by it is not. it is safe to hybernate your computer for long periods of time. all hybernation does is save your session to the hard disk so instead of starting up and loading a new session it infact just resumes your current session, and becuase it is saved to disk it is safe to turn it off and remove power.
