Hardware - March 2007

I want to either upgrade to a Vista compatable machine that will last me for a few years, buy a new Desktop, or get a Mac Mini with OSX.

Specs: 2.8ghz Pentium 4 processor
256 MB RAM
30 GB HD
WinXP

Advice please?

has anyone ever had this problem its a brand new comp 30 days and when i use the ac cord and battery at the same time it acts like it has the hicups it chimes and the screen blinks iv tryed a new battery and redoing my comp to the first day i bought it called cust service and there going to replace it but i have alot of soft ware im going to loose by replcing it and my comp is going to be gone for a long time i took it to best buy and they or clueless or they dont want to help me i took it to a pro comp repair and they said its the mother board any suggestions

I bought it but havent opened it. I really bought it jus to hook up 2 my 32" samsung hdtv. I rarely play games on pc. Jus xbox 360. So do u think it is a good graphics card for that or is some better for the same price or cheaper?

I was looking at my system's configuration recently and I was looking in the paging file tab, and I saw that you can choose any hard disk that windows detects. And I saw that windows detected my USB thumb drive! And it hard all the options ungrayed just like the main drive! And I was wondering if I could use my drive for a large paging file. Would this speed up my computer? Or would I just be doing something that windows thinks is possible?

i test folder guard crypting a movie folder and after a restart it didn't promt me for pass, it sayed just "access is denied" and that the path is not accessible
the big problem is that i can't delete it or wipe and the hard space is tacked and i have a big amount of space not backuped and i cant format the partition...
please what should i do ...????

I have a 4 in 1 USB Hub. When I try to connect my External USB Hard Disk Drive thru the HUB, it does not get detected. When I check the System Device Properties, the External Hard drive shows as detected but not installed due to unavailability of drivers.

I am using Windows XP Professional OS which does not need the installation of drivers to detect a USB device.

Also, the Hard drive when connected directly to the Laptop wors just like a USB Device is suposed to. Another thing is that any other device connected to the USB hub (like my flash and Zip Drives) work perfectly..

Can Anyone provide me an explanation to this one and a way to work around this problem?

How do I get direct3d on my computer? i have directdraw, but i need direct3d to play a game i just bought (stronghold 2.) i have an intel drive if that helps.

I was planning on building a new computer (since my 5 year old dell is dead). As I began to research on build a computer I realized that the process is too complicated and there is so much the learn. Am thinking about buying a refurbished PC, but not sure how to find a good one. I plan to use the computer for some office work, download music, surf the web (no game playing).

My husband bought an E-machine today with Vista and we are having a problem getting on line. We use a Broadband connection and a linksy Router. I believe we need drivers but don't have a disc for them . Anyone know where you can get drivers when you've got this new Vista!!!

I have a Toshiba Satellite A105-S101 that was bought new 1 year ago. It came with a 4 cell battery (14.4V at 2000mAh) that lasted only one hour. I bought a replacement 8 cell battery (Not name Brand 10V at 4400mAh) and it lasted 2 hours. After 9 months this battery doesn't last very long. Only 30 min. Is the battery defective? I know batteries don't last forever, but this is redicules. I am thinking about buying another battery. Should I spend the extra money and get an new battery from Toshiba (8 cell 14V at 4000mAh) or can I spend half as much on a new (no name) brand with the same specs? I would consider mysleft a heavy laptop user and keep my laptop plugged in most of the time. Please help.

I need a printer for a Compaq computer. I don't know where to look to find a printer that is compatible. I looked under Faxes and Printers but as far as I could understand there were no names, numbers or anything else that could help me know what to buy. My old computer gave me printer company names and printer numbers that would be compatible with it. But I can not find the info on this one. I looked under support under printers but I still don't see what I'm looking for.

Hi, I've recently tried to open the bottom of my laptop, to upgrade my memory. I tried to screw open the screw on the memory case door, but I couldn't open it... and then I just kept trying to screw it open, and now the screw is all messed up, and my screw can't open it anymore, and I can't upgrade my MEMORY!!!

Does anyone know how to solve the problem of a broken screw? The screw has no more grip, so my tiny screwdrivers can be no use now....... PLEASE HELP ME!!!
