I currently have a mac iBook G4 that is 3 years old and needs to be replaced. (Ridiculously short battery life, limited memory etc) I'm considering getting a PC instead of getting another mac. Is it difficult to switch all my files (mainly concerened about my iTunes library, photos, movies etc) to a new PC?

Hi Margaret J,

Sorry to hear about your dissatisfaction with your iBook. That is pretty surprising. I know a lot of people who would love a G4 iBook like that, so you won't have any problems selling, with a new battery or not.

The good news is that most of your Macintosh files will transfer fine to a Windows PC. Macs burn CDs that are compatible and you can simply move your iPhoto pictures over and burn them to CD, as well as your iTunes music. MP3 and AIFF music files can easily be read by your Windows software, as well as your photos in JPEG (JPG) format. Well, maybe not as nicely as how the Mac does it.

Likewise, if you have Quicktime movie files, those can be viewed on a Windows PC also. There is a free Quicktime viewer that is Windows compatible located at the Apple web site.

Best of luck with your decision.

No it is not. You can burn playlists in iTunes to a CD. If you have a large music library this can be difficult. You can also burn movies(to DVDs of course) in iTunes but you can not play them on DVD players. they will only work on itunes. If you have an iPod in the options enable the ipod so you can use it as an external hard drive and put your music on to it as a hard drive not as the iPod in iTunes. You can also use flash drives to move your pictures or you could just use your iPod/hard drive to transfer every file you need. These are the only options i know of. I hope it helps

A note: I use windows xp. I want a mac but do not have one.
