You really need to go to HP Support and read! This important in a Laptop as you only have a few slots. IF, it hold 1 GB total, you really need to invest your money to max out on RAM. You buy 256 MB now and then later want more, you pretty much throwed away your money on the 256. I hope you see what I say.
I will look from what you give, but, may need a "Model Number" you find that on bottom, be a little label say; Model:xxxx
OK, I am back, sorry, I not know why I thought Laptop, guess because that what I using.
I think your computer only take 384 MB total so, 128 MB all you can get, you buy a 256 MB and you pay for something you can not use.
Standard Memory 128 MB (removable)
Maximum Memory 384 MB
Memory Expansion 3 sockets
Model Comments 100MHz FSB
Memory Comments PC100 SDRAM DIMMs 168 PIN
Processor 650MHz Intel Pentium III
But, where I looked may be wrong!!!!!
Taking a wild guess, I will say when you open it you going to see two slots with 128 MB installed and an empty slot. 128 MB cost about $20.
IF, the link work it get you to HP Specs. Now they want me to fill out a survey, Ha! I gave them your e-mail. :-D
Just Joking. :-p

you can put a maximum of 3x128 meg sticks of 168 pin 100 MHz Ram. For a total of 384 Megs. If you put in a 256 it will bring you to 512 which is over you computers capacity

I found your computer online, links below as well as a site you can get memory for it. HP says max memory for your computer is 384 MB though Crucial.com says you can put up to 768 MB. Depending on what you're able to do, you can buy a complete computer for under $500 that will be much faster than what you have now. Good Luck

yes you should have no problem with that, i upgrade my compaq presario from 1gb to 2gb by replacing two 512 units with 2 1024 units, though be careful RAM in laptops is really specific so be careful what you buy. if your not overly confident, i would have it taken to a pro
