i think it turned on and all but my monitor is completely black and nothing is on it

I can burn just fine, but the burned disc isn't readable anywhere. I've tried with a cd and a dvd, always the same results. I have the equipment that apples says that I need (the superdrive).

Should I buy software?

I have a lot of important files on my computer and I'm wondering if I do a complete system restore or re-install of windows if I will lose all files. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Okay, I have no idea what the crap is wrong with my computer! It keeps telling me I have barely any disk space at all. I am a big Sims 2 player and I know my games slow my computer down, but I have 512MB of RAM, so this is ridiculous! I have deleted all unused and unwanted files and everything else I can think of. PLEASE HELP ME! What else can I do to make my computer faster and clear space? I am even defragmenting right now and I had the computer clean disk space!

I bought a memory chip from this guy (fourniersean) on e-bay. When he was selling the chip he said that the memory will work in Gateway 5300. After I installed his chip it did not work. Then, when I asked him for a refund he said - just add $25 and we will replace the chip. Of course I did not go for that. When I asked for a refund he said "We will not give you the money back because you just bought a wrong memory.
Now I know I bought what they advertised, and also when they were selling the chip they had my computer model listed.

my question is: What would you do now?

I've installed a third hard drive, yet when I turn on my computer, it's not recognized. The jumper settings are set to slave. I thought that maybe my computer cannot have more than 4 IDEs taken up (DVD, master HD, slave HD, floppy)...so I disconnect my DVD and connected it to this third Hard Drive.... Still nothing. What could it be?

Here is the problem. My old laptop, when I press power button, all it does is make a couple of clicking sounds. I've had that problem before in 2005. That time, the tech replaced a small circuit underneath the power button. Last year, it happened again, this time another tech said I need to buy a new one since fixing it will cost more than new.
I know the hard drive is still in good condition. I want all data from my old laptop into my new laptop or into my desktop. Keep in mind my old one cannot power up. How do I transfer files in this case? I'm not computer smart so you have to explain to me in details. Thanks!!

it has in the past with no problems. It could read and write just fine. However now it will not see any audio cd's. It will see a CD-ROM and read off of it just fine...... any ideas?

I have a Canon MP160. I bought USB-USB chords so I could connect it to my computer. I plug in a USB chord and the message "E9 [or 9E]" shows up. I don't know what it means... I threw away the manual [thinking I wouldn't need it anymore]. I've looked online, but I really don't know what to search. Any help is appreciated.

Hey all, I need a new power supply. I am running off an old 300W supply I pulled from an un-used computer. To get it to fit into my case, I needed to make a 1/2 inch wooden spacer to get it to fit.

(My case has an arm that holds down the PSU and no screws...so I need a either perfect size PSU or a spacer...and I dont want a spacer) Thanks!

I am looking to upgrade my computer. I'm stuck with a Dell 2400 and am wondering, if I get a new Motherboard and Processor, will I basicallly be able to transfer most of my other stuff? I would of course get more RAM, bigger Hard Drive, Video Card, Power Supply, etc...and know I could save money over buying a full Brand New PC. But what all would I be able to transfer? And is there some things I would for sure have to switch out? If it's gonna be a whole ton of stuff, I'm just gonna buy a PCI Graphics Card and more RAM.

I've seen the new Killer network card and it claims to increase online gaming performance and such. Does it make that big of a difference over inboard network controllers? Is it that good an investment, Im huge into online shooters. Anybody go from inboard to the Killer or like card?

We have a Dell Dimension 4700 desktop that is 2 years old and works well. We are using the back speaker jack for a set of speakers in two rooms which always work fine. The problem is when we plug in a headphone into the front headphone jack it almost immediately makes it so that you can't select anything with your mouse and then the cursor slows way down.

We've tried several remedies including unplugging the headphone once the problem starts and unplugging the speakers from the back before plugging in the headphone to the front. None have worked. The only remeady has been to restart the computer by pressing on the button on the front. I can't seem to get the Process box to appear by pressing cntl-alt-delete.

The really strange thing is that the headphone jack worked, with the speakers plugged in, for about 6 months before this problem arose about a year ago. The only way to use the headphones now is to unplug the speakers before we turn on the computer. Please help!

I have a WD USB 80 GB external hard drive not accessible after reinstalling window XP. I tried that in my other pc and its not working there either now. It recognize by both computers but no drive letter appears. Reinstall WD drivers/software few times without luck.

I think something went wrong during OS reinstall while drive was attached. I am wondering, formatting internal drives cause any damage or would it be possible if I accidentally format external one too during the processs !

Any help will be greatly appreciated!
